Weekend at Bernie's

No we're not talking about the movie (albeit a classic we highly suggest you watch), its another dress event show casing dresses/items  but this time from the brand Bernie Dexter. Our last event was a week long & was such a blast we couldn't wait to participate in another one although instead of a week it was just a weekend long. This however worked in our favor because we don't have many pieces from Bernie just yet.( but you should see our wish lists). This brand is a made in America one, thats items are 100% cotton & who's designer and namesake is a pinup model.(Can it get any better than that?!).We don't have many dresses from this brand due to the price tag that accompanies it, though there are a few we would love to own! We've been following and pining after this brand for years, while they do pop up ocassionaly on other BST pages/ebay  there was never a group exclusively dedicated to it until now. Once again the power of beautiful clothes has brought all us Bernie lovers together & we have the always lovely Brittnee Coomer pictured below to thank for making this group a reality.(Happy belated birthday from us at gals at thehepburnmovement doll!).She's the one who not only made the group but also organized this whole event. We decided to use the two we do own  for this weeks event and to also do a review on them! We know its a very popular brand in the pinup /novelty print loving world(we're talking about you mod cloth BST gals), the prints and cuts of the dresses can be spotted from a mile away. So we decided it was about time to do a  review to share our thoughts on this highly talked about brand while celebrating with other gorgeous ladies.

Review
Now Bernie dexter has a variety of different cuts to choose from and review but since we both only have this particular cut (its our favorite and you'll soon see why) we felt it simply needed to be reviewed. Now its important to note that Bernie makes a lot of dresses in very similar styles but with a slight variance and gives them a new name, this is the case with the two dresses we are reviewing today. Kirsten's is called the sugar doll and mine the absolute sweetheart due to the cut out in the back. Other than that they're exactly the same, cut, fit, shape etc.(who knew a little heart shaped back window could have such an impact? haha). We both got them in our perspective sizes Kirsten small and me extra small & we both felt they fit pretty true to size. This is Kirsten's favorite cut because of how flattering it is on her (she owns another dress in this cut, this is how the obsession began!) and when I got a chance to try it out I simply had to get it. In true best friend fashion Kirsten's advice did not let me down and I too am now a DIE HARD BERNIE FAN ..well in this cut anyways. Although our body types, sizes and heights are completely different theres no denying how wonderful they look on us both.

Besides the adorable prints that are on Bernie's designs we also love the fact that they are made out of cotton! Living in a humid climate (like Florida) it is essential to have clothing that breaths! Cotton is not only light weight, but it is also super durable which means that it will last you a while! (this is essential since we live fairly active and accident prone lifestyles due to our clumsiness). The dresses might be over most people's price point, but due to the manufacturing and the fabric (and pockets!) we definitely recommend them if you can locate one in a price point you can afford to try it out! We even have a few tricks up our sleeves to help you find some! Like places to look at to find good deals on Bernie Dexter which include  Zulily, eBay, and Facebook groups. Also keep in mind that Bernie is known to do sales around holidays so maybe chose a style and save up! We want to mention that although we are fans of the brand we feel the quality doesn't exactly match the big price point which is why we suggest finding them for less than retail. They are thin and unlined cotton dresses but what they lack in quality they make up for in cute styles and print. All in all for fit, cut, material, print & attention to detail (we're looking at you glorious pockets) we give these dresses an 8/10.

We hope you enjoyed our different take for this review in Bernie Dexter dresses! As you all know we love mixing things up a bit & keeping y'all on your toes so this was a fun one for us to do. What better way to show off the immense impact a brand has than to show ladies from all parts of the world, who also happen to be different shapes & sizes in dresses from it? There isn't one! We definitely recommend Bernie Dexter dresses for their fun, whimsical patterns + fun styles but be sure to join "The Bernie Dexter Collective" group on Facebook to not only find the best deals but also be apart of an amazing & supportive community.

Do you believe in unicorns?

We are no strangers to the incredible power that social media has in the six short months that we've been up and running  as a blog we've experienced so much thanks to it. We have made amazing friendships and become apart of an amazing community. Its this community that makes events such as this one possible and we couldn't be happier for it. A unicorn? The mythical creature that is a horse with a horn? What does that have to do with fashion? (EVERYTHING because its magical as is our wardrobe,in the sense that it somehow magically fits all our clothes despite its size haha).Well in our world a unicorn isn't the beautiful horse that we think of but rather a beautiful dress/skirt/top/pants etc. that is discontinued and  incredibly hard to find so you search high and low in hopes of finding it. (like searching for a mythical creature). "It is a monstrous thing, to slay a unicorn" quote from Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone by JK Rowling and we don't condone it however acquiring clothes unicorns is another thing entirely and thats what we intend to do. A unicorn can be different to each person and comes down to preference (which you will see from the photos we compiled of friends showing off their personal unicorns!). Since this week was a theme made by one of the groups we are in that branched off another PUG group,it  was originally supposed to be just Unicorns from Pinup Girl Clothing (PUG) but within the last year PUG has been rereleasing a bunch of unicorns making them easy to find hence them no longer being unicorns. Due to this, the majority who wanted to participate (us included) did not have enough pug unicorns for a week and so we opened it to any pinup brand and all unicorns (because we don't judge your unicorn!). The two lovely ladies who helped orchestrate the whole event are featured below, they are magical unicorns all on their own & we highly suggest you give them a follow. Without further ado, prepare for unicorns from different kinds of pinup brands to grace this blog post!

The last unicorn
This is a special section dedicated to all the ladies who participated, including some who even decided to match with us. Now if you doubted the power of social media & the wonderful close knit relationship of the pinup community before, you won't after looking through this compilation of photos. Ladies from all parts of the world, all walks of life, races, religion etc. joined in to help make this amazing event not only possible but a huge success. They gave us a place to feel welcome in and share our love of all things pinup and vintage related. It isn't just about the clothes for us although thats what initially brought us together, its a shared place of belonging and we are so lucky to have found such a remarkable group of ladies. Theres not much more we can say without emotions getting the best of us,so we'll let the pictures do it for us.
