I like being a pinup girl, there's nothing wrong with it!

We here at the thehepburnmovement strive to show the diversity of pinup/vintage culture every chance we get, to show that ANYONE and everyone can be a pinup regardless of your age, sexual orientation or race. That despite the lack of representation in the media, we exist and are here to inspire others to step out into the spotlight. People from all kinds of nationalities and identities make up this community and we aim to show that with every post. We want to highlight the wide variety of pinup/vintage loving people because they come from all walks of life, and deserve to be seen. This week's pinup is no different,in fact she's got a heart of gold and a super sweet personality to boot. She spreads, sunshine, love, body positivity and welcomes everyone with open arms regardless their gender, orientation ethnicity etc. Those are just some of the amazing qualities that make her perfect for this weeks edition of "Any one can be a pinup" and we are delighted to share her story with you.

CORY

Have you ever met someone whose smile lights up a room? What about someone whose smile lights up the Internet? This week's pinup is someone who's personality shines so bright and who's smile literally lights up the world! We want to introduce you to Cory or the smiley pinup! We originally came across Cory on Instagram and were captivated by not only her beautiful smile but also her charming personality! She is the embodiment of positivity and love, she spouts body positivity, self  love and acceptance for all and we hope you enjoy getting to know this ray of sunshine!

When did you get into the pinup life style?

I got into the pinup lifestyle fairly recently. However, I have always adored the style. My Facebook memories will populate different pictures of pinup gals, I have shared on my feed from many years ago. Back when I was a sophomore in high school, that is when I  first truly started developing my love for all things pinup and polka dot. That being said, I never had the confidence to actually get dolled up. Throughout high school and the first 3 years of college, I  suppressed my longing to become The Smiley Pinup. However, one day it all changed for me, my oldest brother got married back in early 2014 and it gave me the confidence and  special occasion I needed to try it out. I  styled my very first pinup outfit, I had a baby doll little black dress, Shirley Temple socks with the fluff, and full on bumper bangs. I was so excited to showcase my outfit I had pulled off all by myself and everyone's reaction to it was so motivational.  I continued to rock my Vans and concert tees to school for a couple more years, but was concocting a plan to go all out my Senior year and that is exactly what I did. I created my Instagram page about a year ago and started documenting all of my outfits.Like they say, the rest was history! I also got inspiration from many girls on Instagram and of course different Vintage Queens and slowly started to style myself. Everyone knows me at school and work as "That Pinup Girl" but I correct them and say,"No, I'm The Smiley Pinup".

Who is your biggest style inspiration?

My biggest style inspirations would have to be Billie Holiday and Elizabeth Taylor. Almost every time I decide to wear some kind of hair flower look, I go for the giant double hair flower look because of them. They are so beautiful and I try to rock them as well as Billie did. I also really love to sing and so we are connected in that way too. My favorite thing ever is when someone randomly tells me that I remind them of Billie Holiday. My heart jumps a bit because she was so beautiful. Moreover, I have ADORED Liz Taylor's style for years. I have always had hair on the shorter side, but recently  I went for the pixie look so I could style my hair  just like Liz did when she had a pixie. I plan to recreate some of her looks soon to show how much she inspires me. They are the epitome of classic vintage, they are the QUEENS of QUEENS to me. I also get inspiration from the lovely ladies I follow on Instagram. If it wasn't for their extra inspiration, I would not be the stylish pinup I am today. Much love to you ladies!

How does it feel to be a minority in the pinup community?

Lastly, being a WOC in the pinup community is pretty awesome. I am half Salvadorian and half Black American. I love that I have two different cultures that I can incorporate into my pinup fashion. Moreover, I LOVE seeing vintage pictures of Black pinups. They seriously just take my breath away every time I see them. Being a Black pinup really makes me feel good because I know I am forever connected to those same Black pinups that I adore from the past. Also that I am able to share my love for this style and fashion with others just like me. I really love the skin I am living in. With all this being said and with me being so proud, I would also like to mention that I find inspiration in ALL pinups.  I found my way and fit right in and want others like me to see that they can do it too. Above all, I bring a lot of diversity,I have beautiful brown skin, short hair, and I'm little bit chubby. I am proud of that and own it because I am my own kind of pinup. I am SO proud to be in a position where I can be THE hero for many girls to come.

We hope you enjoyed this week's edition of "anyone can be a pinup" as  much as we did. We love sharing people's stories with y'all especially when they're as full of kindness and love as Cory is. She inspires us everyday to not only be better but also do better, after all the more good we put into the world the better it'll be.

Now this weeks featured pinup, is the most unique one yet because she falls into a category that most people often overlook. Being Pregnant is already hard enough, but throw in being pinup on top of it and it's a complete game changer. Many people question whether it can be done, or at least done well and Sugar is here to show them how it's done. With her timeless elegance, fierce spirit and head strong attitude she shows that you can do anything you put your mind too. After all regardless of your size or shape "Any one can be a pinup".

All dolled up!

As self proclaimed vintage/pinup bloggers on a budget, we strive to find the best deals despite our rather small allowance (Most of you know the college student woes). We like to showcase that money doesn't have to be an obstacle, and that's why we are proud to present one of favorite and more affordable stores in today's review for small business Sunday! Doll Me Up  is a one stop pinup store, you need a dress? GOT IT! Need a top? GOT IT! Need shoes? YEP! Cropped cardigan? OF COURSE! They have anything and everything a vintage inspired girl needs! We have been fawning over items from Doll Me Up for a while from their pleasant top to their Tootsie Crop Cardigan so this made it  exceptionally hard when we had to decide 'What first?'. If you know anything about us you know we LOVE dresses, and avidly wear only dresses. So when we saw the Hamilton Dress and Diana Pin Dot Dress we knew we had to have them! They say the right dress can truly make a woman and after trying these gorgeous dresses on, we can't help but agree.

There are always flowers for those who want to see them

Lorena is a fiery and spirited Chicana who refuses to let society silence WOC and minorities everywhere. She uses her small business ruby rae clothing, to bring representation home and works to fight for our rights every chance she gets. Our blog is what brought Lorena into our lives and we can't wait to share more of her story with you!

LORENA
(retrorubyrae )

We met Lorena thanks to our blog, she actually made our favorite summer tops ever for us and was one of  our first big collaborations. We were honored to be able to work with her and ended up building an amazing friendship thanks to the opportunity. Lorena is a hard working, kind hearted, down to earth, sassy small business owner who strives to show case the diversity of the community through her work. She offers opportunities for women of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities to truly shine through her company and is a huge advocate for women's rights. She is the true embodiment of "Any one can be a pinup" and it's our pleasure to share another side of her with all of you.

Picture Perfect Picnic

The sun is shining, with the occasional spring shower, and so the best way to spend the day is by having a picnic with your best friend! When we think of picnics we think gingham and fruit. They're a match made in heaven, they're like the quintessential picnic staples. So we knew for our picnic themed shoot,we had to don a little bit of both. We've been working to branch out to different styles and truly get the best of our wardrobe and this gave us a chance to try out another kind of look. People often confuse pinup and rockabillly, when in fact  they are two separate things. Despite their differences we felt it would be fun to mix the two styles together and create our own spin on them.

We recently got a chance to work with Michael of Sonacity Productions and decided to embrace the beautiful weather the best way possible! We took photos in the Winter Park area, which is a part of the Orlando area known for being beautiful (and  for our avid readers out there, the place John Green grew up).

There is no specific criteria to be a part of this community or even embody the pinup lifestyle, in fact any one can be a pinup isn't just the name of our series but our motto as well. There are no barriers or obstacles to becoming one, besides the ones you have set yourself because regardless of where you come from or who you are we welcome you with open arms. Dana is one of the incredible people who shows with her fabulous fashionable flair, who stays undeniably true to herself that "pinup" isn't a small narrow little box, instead it is full of endless opportunities and combinations. Once you read her story we're sure you'll agree that "any one can be a pinup".

DANA

Dana is an absolute sweetheart the true pastel pinup princess of our day and age, we mean that with every fiber of our beings no one compares to her. We met Dana much like many of our pinup friends due to our shared interest in beautiful clothes( its always the clothes that brings us together my friends), however its her infectious kind heartedness, her love for twin peaks, brand new and all things kitschy and cute that truly made us click. The more we got to know Dana, the more wonderful we realized she was, she's a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and a very active feminist who strives to break down stereotypes and stigmas. She refuses to let the world stick her in a box because of her femme looks and truly embodies the saying "Any one can be a pinup". We are delighted to share this sweet gals story with you and hope that you enjoy getting to know her as much as we have.
