A different kind of pinup

Living in the sunshine state aka no season Florida, means having to find ways to spice up your predominantly summer filled wardrobe. Yes that's right,  even us pinups get tired of wearing the same thing constantly. Unlike our lucky counter parts up north, we don't get the change of seasons and wardrobes. It's all sun dresses and sun hats for us and while we long for fall weather, we know our chances are slim so we opt for the next best thing.  We like to try out different styles to keep our look from being monotone and from going mad ourselves.(can you tell how much we love the endless summer?!). Now people seem to conjure up a certain idea when they think of pinups but we can assure you,  not only do we come in all shapes and sizes but different styles too.

Afterall Anyone can be a pinup and what better way to show that than by branching out with styling ? Can you be a pinup while having a different style too? YES! We decided to Show case this for a photo shoot with Amanda from A Style Photography ,when she reached out to us to do photos for a project she was working on. The project? A jewelry company (The Enchanted Forest) came out with a new set of necklaces and they wanted her to take photos. The theme? Natural/Bohemian. The Bohemian style/subculture has origins dating back to the 1800's. Bohemian can be defined as "a person who has informal and unconventional social habits, especially an artist or writer." The fashion of the 1920's was heavily influenced in this style as seen in some of the outfits worn by Carla Bow, Mary Brian and Josephine Baker.

The bohemian style continued to pop up during other counter cultures during the years, such as the hipsters (1940's), the beat generation (1950's) and the Hippies of the 1960's and 1970's. We chose to keep this more understated with small elements from the 1920's such as the lace headband Kirsten wore and more loosely based bohemian style outfits.

Neither of us have ever dressed very Boho before and did not know how to go about doing so, but Amanda gave us a couple of guidelines that made picking outfits for these photos easy! She said natural, flowy, turquoise and white and so we took that into consideration and made  cute bohemianesque pinup outfits.( we tried our best). The main items in both outfits were vintage, the turquoise dress Paola is wearing was bought off eBay and the turquoise skirt Kirsten is wearing was thrifted. Both straw hats were thrifted, Paola spent $6 on hers and Kirsten paid $3! The modern elements were the shoes as well as the lace headband and crop top Kirsten wore.

We hope you enjoyed our take on blending two styles together! We had a lot of fun and are thinking of doing this with other styles, if you have a style you want to see us blend with our pinup style leave a comment.  Just because you want to dress in a vintage style doesn't mean you need to change your personal style! Thank you so much A Style Photography for working with us (all links below)!
