Always be yourself

We here at the thehepburnmovement strive to show the diversity of pinup/vintage culture every chance we get, to show that ANYONE and everyone can be a pinup regardless of your age, sexual orientation or race. That despite the lack of representation in the media, we exist and are here to inspire others to step out into the spotlight. People from all kinds of nationalities and identities make up this community and we aim to show that with every post. We want to highlight the wide variety of pinup/vintage loving people because they come from all walks of life, and deserve to be seen. This weeks pinup is...

 ADDY
(Addy's instagram)
We met Addy much like many other pinups featured thanks to our love of dresses. Addy was actually one of the first people to show us the wonderful online vintage community. Now while vintage dresses and fabulous prints may have brought us together, its her incredible personality that made us friends. Addy is one of the most inspiring women that we know, she is open and honest about her life, she advocates for women's and LGBTQ+ rights constantly pushing us to be better and kinder with every message, every picture she posts. Her story is one you won't want to miss!

When did you get into the pinup life style ?

I have always loved the 1950's, the fashion, the movies, the music, everything about it. However I didn't begin dressing this way on a regular basis, until I realized my autistic son would actually look at me when I wore colorful swing skirts. It totally changed my life ,just like he did in the best way possible. Since people with autism have difficulty looking directly at people, this was a game changer for me. Now he loves making me twirl and looks forward to seeing what outfit I wear every day.

Who is your biggest style inspiration ?
I have two major style  influences.  First is Jasmine Rodriguez aka "Vintage Vandal." She is from NYC, like me, I love how she mixes modern with vintage and also how she mixes her look up with different eras. My second  major style influence is Eleanor Paige.  She is so beautiful and her manner of styling her clothes, hair and makeup is perfect.  She also loves Star Wars and has blue hair...totally my girl crush  and style guru for life.

And how does it feel to be a minority in the pinup community ?

At first, I felt a intimidated when I first joined the community almost like I didn't belong. After all I didn't really look like your stereotypical pinup. My body type is so different from the stereotypical pinup, I thought I wouldn't fit in, I'd also never met another Dominican/Colombian pinup before . Over time so many pinups reached out and showed me kindness that my insecurities faded away.  Not many women dress like me here in Brooklyn.   Over the last few years I have encouraged women, who like how I dress to  do the same and dress how they want...not how society dictates.  I try to shine bright so others can feel empowered to do the same,  just like how I felt  empowered from my fellow pinups.  I am still learning something new everyday and I'm just grateful to be apart of this wonderful community.

We hope you enjoyed this week's edition of "Any one can be a pinup", Addy is such a remarkable person and a huge inspiration to us here at thehepburnmovement. She's making waves showing that anyone truly can be a pinup and striving for self love and care on her side of the country. Soon the streets of Brooklyn will be lined with the best dressed and happiest people of all, thanks to Addy and we can't wait to see it!
