We are... in vogue

There's no denying that we take inspiration from the by gone eras on our blog, after all we are called thehepburnmovement. Usually we take inspiration from our favorite stars, or movies but this week we decided to think outside of the box.
Have you ever seen the vintage vogue magazines or the adorable ads? Those were some of the items that inspired this photo shoot! One Vogue cover, June of 1950, inspired us to wear our best black hats and be glamorous! The cover was a photograph taken by Iving Penn and the model was Jean Patchett, this has since then been recreated countless times and was one of the inspirations for our photo shoot with Ayasha from Ayasha Brooke photography

Ayasha reached out to us about doing glamour photography and since it was something we'd never done before we happily said yes,  we spent hours looking up inspiration..needless to say we were intrigued! You might remember Ayasha's work from the review of Doll Me Up post. We chose a day went to the studio and had a bunch of fun playing with concepts and THREE  different outfit changes! We truly felt glamorous during the whole photoshoot, with different outfits and lighting, as if we were old hollywood stars preparing for an event.

Our first concept was partly based on Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's as well as the June 1950's Vogue cover! We donned our favorite LBDs (little black dress), Audrey Earrings, and red lipstick for this classic look! It is the timeless elegance of this combo that has made it a staple not only in our wardrobes, but of the wardrobes of many women. From Coco Chanel to Audrey Hepburn, the little black dress has stood the test of time and continues to dazzle and grow in popularity today!  You simply can't go wrong with a little black dress! We each wore a little black dress from a different decade, Paola's being a popular 1950's style cut and Kirsten's being a more 1940's inspired frock!

While our first outfits definitely channeled the classic Vogue and Audrey look, we decided to do something a bit more colorful for the second look. Something that hit a bit more close to home, since our wardrobes are basically an explosion of color. It also helps that these vogue covers we derived inspiration from reminded us of our favorite time of year, the most wonderful time of all Christmas! There's no denying we love Christmas , in fact we did a whole look book about it. So we knew our second looks had to pay an homage to our favorite holiday and color combination.

Second outfit  inspirations:

(Vogue Cover: February 1960 by Irving Penn model is Katherine Pastrie, April 1956 by Karen Radkai models are Joan Friedman and Evelyn Tripp)

Ayasha was an absolute pleasure to work with and we cannot recommend her enough, every moment whether posing for a picture or changing outfits was full of laughter and fun. She truly captured the glamorous side of us and we are so incredibly thankful for these pictures. They embody the timeless elegance and grace we always try to exude and we feel like hollywod stars whenever we see them. If you are ever in the central Florida area, look Ayasha up and plan a shoot with her you will NOT regret it.

Inspiration comes from many different places! You can be inspired by a photo in a magazine, a song on the radio, or maybe a movie you saw once. So remember that you can be struck with an idea at any moment! We recommend keeping a journal or notes in your phone incase the time comes! (That's exactly what we do,although sometimes we forget what inspired a note). No idea is too big or too small, no method of inspiration too outlandish or silly trust us on this. When inspiration does hit you go ahead and run with it,see where this new idea takes you. You might be surprised at the outcome!

We hope you enjoyed this week's spotlight post, we love featuring small businesses on the blog whether its a local photographer or a seamstress half away across the world. Ayasha is certainly no exception and we are so grateful that she allowed us to bring these ideas to life. We cannot sing her praises enough and know that when we work with her again we'll be happy with the outcome. She helped inspire us and this post, it goes to show that inspiration truly can come from anyone or anywhere. So dear readers we'll leave you with this question, What inspires you?

If you have any comments, questions or even suggestions on who you'd like to see us feature next, feel free to comment below and we'll do  our  best to reply in a timely manner.

As always thanks for reading, may your days be filled with pretty dresses, dapper clothes & a lot of happiness.
