All tied up!

We here at thehepburnmovement love to step outside of society's carefully constructed boxes for us. We refuse to be tied down by stereotypes and labels. To us there is no feminine or masculine style, it's just style. Often times people over look how glamorous and popular the androgynous look is. When they think of pinup style its the last thing that comes to mind, and we've seen comments before about how that's not "pinup or vintage enough". We're here to give the nay sayers a hard dose of reality. WOMEN WORE PANTS IN THE 50s if we're going to be completely accurate they started as early as the 1800s, although it didn't become poplar in western fashion until the 1920's, women were still wearing them.

It was revolutionary for a reason. We broke down the sexist agenda, we showed that clothes has no gender. We did all of this by wearing pants, after all there's more to vintage style than flapper dresses, A-line skirts, and swing dresses. It's not very often we embrace the more androgynous style here on the blog, finding pants that fit us both is a real struggle (you try finding shorts or pants that accommodate a 4'9 gal with a 21 inch waist, then we'll talk). However when we got these ties, we knew we simply had to show case them in a unique and different style. We did a review on them featuring our boyfriends that you can find here. We constantly like to branch out with our style to not only test our wardrobes but also ourselves, there's more to us than meets the eye and we refuse to be tied down to one specific look. Life is too short not to dress in a way that makes you happy, whatever that might be.

INSPIRATION
Truth be told we tried our best  to emulate stars like Marlene Dietrich, Katherine Hepburn and even Rita Hayworth.  We loved the effortless elegance and glamour they seemed to exude, with a simple pair of pants. Now we love our skirts as much as the next pinup, but sometimes they can be a bit more high maintenance than we'd like. Especially when you add in that extra layer of a petticoat, belts etc. it can be a bit more complicated than we'd like to do on a regular basis. Pants offer an easy, low maintenance yet stylish alternative. Although remembering how to pose in a more androgynous way, was definitely harder than it looks (our hips just don't lie).  We definitely spent a few hours doing research, watching the movies these lovely ladies starred in for inspiration. We were so excited to work with Treeswingvintage  and Erick for this special post and can't wait to show you how we styled them.

About the photographer

We want to give a special shout out to Erick from Erick Paul photography, he's always up to trying new ideas no matter how different or last minute they are. He helped us create the perfect ode to these stylish ladies who inspired us and show that pants can be pinup/vintage style. We have worked with him more times than we can even count at this point and we leave every shoot 100% satisfied and happy with the outcome. He allows us to vocalize our ideas, throw them out there and enjoys working with them. He is always an absolute pleasure to work with, we leave every shoot full of laughter, fun memories and amazing shots. If you're ever in the central florida area, we cannot recommend him enough.

We hope you enjoyed this weeks "Spotlight post", we felt these bow ties and our good friend Erick deserved another post. Not only because we head so many incredible shots to show off but also because we wanted to really drive the point home. PANTS ARE VINTAGE STYLE, if anything they're more vintage style than dresses or skirts. They changed the shape of history and if you know any naysayers, direct them to this post we're sure after reading it they'll change their mind.  Regardless of whether you wear skirts, dresses, petticoats or pants/suits you'll fit right in with us!

If you have any comments, questions or even suggestions on who you'd like to see us feature next, feel free to comment below and we'll do  our  best to reply in a timely manner.

As always thanks for reading, may your days be filled with pretty dresses, dapper clothes & a lot of happiness.
