Back to basics: Denim

That's right everybody we're wearing pants; we know this is a phenomenon we promise the world is not ending. Jeans are a wardrobe staple for many people. While we don't typically wear jeans we decided to try our hand at styling them, largely inspired by Marilyn Monroe. Blue jeans were not always popular in women's fashion; Kyra's grandma told her that she didn't own a pair of jeans when she was our age because they were only made for men. Once hollywood stars like Marilyn Monroe started wearing them, they changed the way women looked at pants forever. Though they weren't referred to as blue jeans but instead dungarees. The dungarees found in the 1950's are similar to the blue jeans found today, but definitely more like fraternal twins than identical and we want to showcase that in our post. Keep scrolling to see how blue jeans have evolved over time and how we made them our own.

We decided to showcase two different styles of blue jeans. Paola is wearing true 1950's dungarees and Kyra is wearing a modern pair of high waisted skinny jeans. We chose Marilyn Monroe for our inspiration on these outfits, simply because she truly knew how to rock jeans.  She made us want to give them a second try, since we don't wear them regularly (we're still struggling to find the perfect pair, that fit just right!). Marilyn was seen in pants many times throughout the years from high waisted jeans, to long flowing trousers and everything in between. She revolutionized the idea that jeans couldn't be worn by women and that they couldn't be alluring or  fashionable.

We hope you enjoyed our first pants post of 2018, and hopefully not our last. Branching into new styles can be a little daunting, but like in this post also rewarding. After all vintage jeans have pockets, and nothing beats that! We're on the hunt for more to build our collection and bring new looks to the blog with it.  Thank you to Erick Paul Photography for taking these amazing photos of us! Whats a new look you'd like to see us try this year? Comment below and we'll do our best to try it out for all of you!

When modern meets vintage

It's not often that we dabble in more modern styles, simply because we prefer the cuts and the silhouettes of the bygone eras. However for our first small business sunday of 2018, and our good friend Natelle we made the exception. Especially since these beanies are so adorable, we did our best and we added a little modern flair to our usual vintage look. We even brought along a special guest to truly shake things up. It's safe to say that we were pleasantly surprised with these different looks. We enjoyed branching out of our comfort zones to show you just how wonderful these beanies are. Now we've mentioned Natelle a few times on the blog over the past two years, but never for apparel until now. That's right you can wear her art work now too, and we've got all the details on how. So just keep scrolling to see our thoughts, how we styled them and how you can get your very own!

ABOUT NATELLEDRAWSSTUFF
Natelledrawsstuff is a shopped owned by Natelle an illustrator out of Gainesville, FL whom we have had the pleasure of working with a few times now. She also the artist that Kyra reached out to for our best friend brooches! Natelle has been making pins, patches and stickers for a couple years now but just added apparel! She decided on beanies because she personally loves hats (and we do too). Some of the designs on the beanies can be purchased in a different item (or you can get them all and be super matchy and amazing)! You can read more about Natelle on the about us page of her website!

REVIEW

The Capybara design is available in pink or grey! The manatee design is available in a pink manatee or blue manatee, each manatee color is also available in a necklace and a patch! The fat cat design is only offered in a beanie! (so if you want a cat design, then you better get a beanie!) Each beanie is $17.50 and with the cold weather we think that is a steal! Not only will you look cute but you will stay nice and toasty! For design, construction, and affordability we give Natelledrawsstuff 5 stars. For her attention to detail, great communication and fast shipping we give her another 5 stars. Natelle puts her love into every piece and you can see it with every single package you open from her. We simply cannot sing her praises enough and thats why she gets a 10/10 and thehepburnmovement seal of approval!

Falling in love with the (windy) city

Chicago is known for many things from pizza to a huge bean in downtown. This wasn't my first trip to Chicago, though it was my first as an adult and thus the city had a different mood about it. I was able to experience parts of Chicago and the surrounding areas I had never seen because the other times I was in the Chicago area I was with my family and we did more "tourist" activities. One of my favorite memories from my adventures was meeting up with Stephan Wang of smwangphoto and doing a photo shoot in the Downtown area!

One stop we had to make was to the bean (I had never been to the bean) and I had brought beanies from NatelleDrawsStuff to take photos of and we thought... Beanies bean brilliant! The bean wasn't nearly as interesting as some make it seem, but if you want to see the bean there is a baby bean in the public library that has no crowd!

I don't actually drink coffee, but I love coffee shops and Steven knew of the best ones!
We stopped by Hero to take photos in front of the "COFFEE" sign!

Another stop we made was to Goddess and the Baker where I bought a cute rainbow cake pin and a cup of tea! Steven also got a beautiful coffee for me to pose with, the barista was so sweet and made it extra special for the photos!

It's not often I get to wear cute layers so I took full advantage of the weather and brought out my favorite jacket! I got this jacket from a thrift store in Ocala, Florida for $15 and while I have worn it here and there I was so happy to bring it out for this trip!

Outfit Details: London Fog coat- Thrifted/ blouse and green sweater- borrowed from Anna/ skirt- vintage gift from Paola and Anna/ tights- borrowed from mom/ boots- Modcloth/ belt- thrifted/ earrings- reverefolie/ scarf- talbots

I took this trip with my boyfriend Ricardo, who spent part of his life in the Chicago area! We had a locals perspective thanks to our friends who were sweet enough to let us stay with them and show us around the city. And thank you to Steven who captured the best memories of my trip to Chicago (all of his links will be at the end of the post)! My one tip is if you want to do something, do it! I really wanted to see second city and decided to go to a cheaper improve show and hated it and so next time I am going to go to a second city show.
