Fabulous Frocks Recap / Week 3: Mad women

That's right it's time for this weeks edition of our outfit recaps and we decided to go 60's with it since that is when Mad men takes place after all.(although if it were up to us it be mad women not men). The women are the backbone of this story they are the true game changers and noise makers. We chose the four ladies whom we resonated the most with in the series not only for their incredible style but also for their kickass personalities. Peggy is her own kind of feminist demanding to gain recognition for her work and credit where it's rightfully deserved, Joan shows that just because she has curves doesn't mean she should get any less respect and looks and brains  do go together, Megan also show cases that just because someone has a pretty face doesn't mean that talent and original thought don't lie underneath and Betty tackles depression, infidelity as well as weight gain due to stress & finding herself despite it all. Although these ladies aren't perfect , it's their imperfections and quirks that make them stars in our eyes because they refuse to apologize for being themselves and own it in every way they can. We are no strangers to dressing vintage and retro inspired but we also want to show that just because we are fond of the fashion doesn't mean we agree with all the ideas of the eras. Women are more than just  house wives (if they chose to be so, nothing wrong with house wives. We however would be terrible at that  job, you should see our rooms) and these women show that and that's why they're our fashion inspirations for the week.

We decided to focus on the elements of their style that truly define them, they're most identifiable traits if you will. Peggy is all business 99.9% of the time ( no spoilers but even this goody two shoes has a bit of a wild side and boy were we surprised) so we stuck with her  more business woman inspired looks, simple colors and collared blouses. Don't let Peggy's under rated wardrobe fool you however she's one you've got to keep your eye on and thats what we love about her, she's not a wall flower by any means and we wouldn't have it any other way. Now Megan is quite the opposite of Peggy she's wild and free spirited  and like Peggy  she's a secretary turned business woman. However with all the pizzaz and excitement that Peggy lacks, she's all about shift dress and bright colors. Despite her care free nature Megan shows that  she's not afraid to get things done or stand up for what she believes in and once again judging a book by its cover is never a good idea.( We agree with this whole heartedly some of the best books have terrible covers, its like the authors purposefully did this to prove a point).Joan is a living breathing sex pot with an actively ambitious agenda, she doesn't let anyone disrespect her because of her looks. Damn right she's attractive but thats not all she is and she won't let you forget it very chance she gets.Betty is one of those characters that you either love or hate, she's a misunderstood house wife who dreams larger than life and strives to break the cookie cutter mold society has put her in. She still dresses like she's living in the fifties with florals, soft waves, sophisticated shapes and clean makeup. She speaks out about depression and her frustrations with marriage refusing to settle for anything less than she deserves and that makes us love her, because she won't take no for an answer when it comes to her dreams.

We hope you enjoyed this weeks edition of our outfit recaps, we had fun showing you the amazing female characters in Mad Men. We love to celebrate girl power and feminism very chance we get and we are not afraid to show it. These ladies are exceptional complex characters who deserve just as much recognition as their male counterparts, they added life to the show and it wouldn't be the same without them. We showcased various different outfit ideas ,in varying price ranges ( we're harping on this idea because it truly is that revolutionary) to show that once again any style can be achieved no matter your budget, all you've got to do is try.
