Fabulous frocks recap : Week # 1

In addition to our weekly
themed blog posts we thought it would be fun if we had some weekly  outfit recap posts so you could see our style during the school week.(By the school week we mean the days that we both have classes Mon-thur.) This week we wanted to show that being Pinup doesn't always mean you have to be dressed to the nines or even be wearing reproduction vintage. Although it is heavily prominent in our wardrobes we like to mix and match repro clothing with other brands as well. We incorporate various brands and types of clothing into our wardrobe to not only keep our bank counts happy but to keep our styles unique and fresh. Although it may seem from time to time that we pledge allegiance to only one brand that is never the case. We are after all pinups on a budget and we wouldn't want to give anybody the wrong idea (albeit we don't mind if you think of us as glamorously clad in luxurious clothes all the time, truly we don't). In fact its our pinup life style on a budget that inspired us to start this blog in the first place, many people equate being a pinup as a high maintenance life ,  full of grandeur and of course expensive clothing. We're here to not only tear down those stereotypes but to prove to other ladies out there like us,its possible to achieve your style dreams regardless of your financial situation. All you  really need is a little faith, trust and a whole lot of creativity.(You thought we were going to say pixie dust there didn't you? For those who got the reference Gold star ! As for those who didn't you may need to brush up on your Disney side theres more where that came from.). If you're stuck on the creativity part we've got you covered and hope our outfits can offer some inspiration.

Now if you notice a trend in our outfits you're probably right ( your eyes aren't tricking you we promise). We are fond of starting things off in a fun and memorable way and we decided what could be more enjoyable than matching our outfits to the best of our abilities? Nothing ,thats what ! The matching doesn't end in just our outfits however,we decided to mimic some of each others signature poses as well and it was a riot pretending to be the other. We'd coin a pose "Paola's absolute favorite one" or "The one Kirsten always does",it showed us not only is it fun to mix it up every now and again as to not get bored but sometimes it can be really fun to act like your best friend. We even found that we actually were pretty good at each others signature poses and we will probably integrate them into our daily pictures as well. (So if we match in the future in our poses ACCIDENTALLY don't say we didn't  warn you). Thats just another perk of being best friends, you rub off on each other whether you mean it or  not + whether you like it or not. Our outfit matching goes to show you not only the versatility of the pieces but also the ability to find "pinup" inspired pieces wherever you look. You don't have to have a high budget to be a pinup, heck you don't even have to shop at a department store either. There is inspiration all around you, its all about slowing down long enough to take a second glance. We are by no means high maintenance ladies in fact we pride ourselves on our ability to look pinup even in modern clothes and by the end of this post we hope you will too. Go out and find some new ideas, new ways to wear that old piece you love. You'll be surprised what opportunities lie ahead if you simply allow yourself to look at things from a  different perspective.

Art you can wear : The Magic of Mary Blair

Theres no denying the allure that Disney has whether it be the classics or the new modern films /additions to the Disney company , theres magic in every aspect of it. The artwork that makes up the movies is clearly no exception ,in fact its the art work and the amazing people behind it that help our favorite characters come to life. Without them there'd be no Mickey or Minnie and frankly speaking there'd be no Disney. They are the true image of Disney and all that it stands for. Thats why we decided to set our attention on the artists who help make the characters come to life in this special collection of Mary Blair's art work on Jenny skirts. Its been our dream to  be able to wear Disney on our bodies in a way that we can assimilate into our pinup wardrobe without the need of a t-shirt or mouse ears. We wanted something that better suited our styles and worked well with everything.(No bashing Mouse ears we love them as much as the next person, they just can't be worn everyday without being asked "Are you going to disney today"? Trust me we've tried).

Today we decided to focus on one artist in particular who has contributed the art work of some of our favorite Disney movies of all times. To mention a few Cinderella , Peter Pan& Alice in wonderland. It goes without saying that we are huge Disney fanatics & when we saw that PUG (yes we're mentioning them again, you'll see they're going to be a regular feature on our blog because they truly are that awesome) was coming out with a line inspired by her artwork we simply had to get our hands on it. We eagerly awaited the release and oohed and ahhed over the different sneak peeks they gave via social media as well as basically lived on the coming soon section. We may have refreshed that page more times than we care to admit to simply watch the collection grow. We had dreams of outfits we'd create with the pieces and even began to actively plan them. As much as we loved watching the entire line grow and would ultimately like to own a few more if not all of the skirts inspired by her artwork we settled on two. This was not only to keep our wallets happy but also because they were the ones we loved the most and we could easily work into our wardrobe. We like incorporating new pieces that will work with what we already have because lets face it on a college student budget we can't afford to get new things very often it isn't practical or realistic.(We keep playing the lottery hoping we can remedy the situation but so far no luck,we don't give up that easily though!)
However the line became immensely popular and we can't say we blame them. We've yet to meet a single soul that doesn't love disney and hasn't been touched and affected by it in some way. (we don't believe there can be such creatures out there, they're like the abominable snowman just some crazy legend!).This made the pieces sell out incredibly fast, and to date it was one of their most successful lines. Thats because Disney is a timeless treasure,we firmly believe that you truly are never too old for Disney.  For many ourselves included Disney was a pivotal part of our childhood,we grew up watching, reading, drawing, singing, dancing to anything and everything disney. While we each have our own list of respectable favorites, theres one thing that we can both agree on and that is that we love disney more than cherry coke or oreoes. (our two MAJOR vices and we have no shame in admitting them we know you have them too!). Due to the popularity of the line the pieces sold out rather quickly, unfortunately faster than we could raise funds for them so we kept hoping and waiting for a restock. Being as it may, life throws curve balls at you and when they did finally restock we weren't in a position financially to purchase them so we mourned the loss of their immediate addition to our wardrobe and added them to our one day dream list. Months and months passed and unfortunately for me (Paola), the one piece I truly wanted was a limited run and once they sold out it would not be coming back. It became a discontinued print or as us Pugsters refer to it a "unicorn". However as we have previously mentioned we are rather persistent and down right stubborn ladies when we want something we leave no stone unturned to get them. Thus began our frantic searching and search we did high and low, everywhere we could think of. We finally both acquired the pieces we wanted in three sizes too big for Paola and two sizes too big for Kirsten. However that didn't stop our excitement or our desire to wear them and we definitely made them work.(If anyone has any leads on smaller sizes though we'd greatly appreciate them).

 Ode To Mary
Now we felt that this momentous occasion couldn't be complete without an even more momentous post so we decided to have our first special guest today. None other than  Paola's twin sister Anna. She loves Disney just as much as we do. In fact she loves it so much she wanted to dress up with us to show case her love for it. All three of us were deeply smitten with the Mary blair line and knew we wanted to demonstrate our love of disney through it. So we all came up with outfits to wear using the three different pieces we loved best, with our own little flair for each of them.
I (Anna)don't normally dress in this style albeit I love Audrey as much as these ladies, my style is more akin to her dance scene in Funny face than anything else and I don't consider myself a pinup at all. However I felt like branching out and embracing my sister's style because there simply is no better way to show my love for Disney then getting dressed to the nines like a modern day princess.

Anna' s outfit details : Top ( Cardigan worn backwards ) -Old Navy /Necklace- Vintage/Belt/Vintage/ Jenny Skirt in Mary Blair Trains Border Print -Pin up girl clothing /Shoes -Pin up girl clothing /Knee Highs- Forever 21 / Jennifer petticoat - Malco Modes

We hope you enjoyed our inner nerds coming out for this post,we cannot even begin to explain the profound affect that disney has had on our lives but we tried our best to depict our love and admiration of one of its greatest artists through this post. If you have any questions regarding fit or just comments feel free to write below. We are always more than happy to help in anyway we can and appreciate the feedback.

As always thank you for reading ,

May your days be filled with pretty dresses and a lot of happiness .
